ExplOregon Ride 2: Spencer's Butte

The second ride of ExplOregon left much to be desired. While it was a very good workout, I was disappointed with the lack of scenery and uniqueness.

The Spencer Butte Ride began at South Eugene High School and climbed up into the hills surrounding the large edifice of Spencer's Butte. The climb up Fox Hollow Road dominated the first half of the ride while a steep descent along Macbeth Road and the Lorane Highway made up the second half. The loop reconnected back around Amazon Park. The 17.4 mile ride featured a lot of forest scenery, but that was about it. I saw a couple deer on the route, but it was kind of boring.

My legs are getting stronger and my conditioning is getting better, though. I only stopped once on the Fox Hollow hill for a rest, so I think I'm really getting into bike touring shape.

Next week's ride will be a little more exotic riding up to the towns of Marcola and Brownsville while skirting the Coburg Hills.
